I am very excited to announce that I have verbally committed to play at Stanford University (PAC-12) in 2019. Attending Stanford and playing soccer there has been a dream of mine for years and I can still hardly believe it’s becoming a reality. When my parents and I drove to the Stanford campus to visit and meet with the coaches I was a bit nervous because of Stanford’s outstanding reputation both in academics and in their women’s soccer program. Is this really happening? To me?? However, Coach Paul, Hideki, and Margueritte could not have been more welcoming or down to earth. I knew I was where I was meant to be.
There have been many who have helped me throughout the years to develop as both a player and a person. My U11-U12 coach from Placer Blues, Gregg Thompson, who taught these little 10 and 11 year olds the importance of possession soccer when all we wanted to do was dribble up the field and try to score. My current San Juan coach, Erin Sharpe, who helped me to navigate the landscape of college soccer. My teammates who make the whole experience fun and make sure we remember to laugh.
I would especially like to thank my U13-U15 San Juan Coach, Zeca Neto, for forcing me out of my comfort zone and pushing me to become the best player I could be. It was Coach Zeca who first saw my potential as a defender even though I had played an offensive role up until that point. Coach Zeca encouraged me to take risks and trust my abilities, to take on new roles on the field, and to believe I could play wherever he decided to put me. I will always be grateful that Coach Zeca had the vision to see what I could be and to help me to see it as well.
Finally, I want to thank my parents for their loving support and countless hours spent on the road to practices and games. I would not be where I am today without them.
I’m extremely excited to be a Stanford Cardinal in 2019. Fear the Tree!!!
