San Juan’s own Cat Walker (Spirits of ’88) has signed a professional contract to play soccer in Finland for the Club PK-35 in Vantaa, a suburb of Helsinki.   PK-35 is the defending champion of the Naisten Liiga and therefore will compete in the UEFA Champions League this summer as well.

  Walker, who graduated in December from San Diego State University (SDSU), completed a brilliant career as an Aztec As a five-year captain for Coach Mike Friesen she was a three-time first team All Mountain West Conference recipient as well as MWC Player of the Year.   She also competed during the summers in the WPSL, most recently with the Boston Aztecs U23.

  Playing professionally has always been a goal of Cat’s.   “This is a dream come true, to be able to live and play soccer in Europe.   I want to thank everyone who has helped and supported me including my parents (Price and Bonnie Walker) and all my coaches at San Juan, especially Derek Evans and Zeca.”   Cat played U15-16 for Zeca Neto and then finished her career at San Juan as Derek’s captain on the U18.   “I’m not surprised at all”, said Zeca.   “Cat is one of my favorite players who always had the drive and love of the game. She is also so humble.”

  Cat was fortunate to have choices when looking to play abroad.   She believed PK-35 offered her the most, including a coach she could relate to in Pauliina Miettinen who played college in the US and speaks fluent English.   The opportunity to play at the highest level in Europe in the Champions’ League was ultimately why Cat chose PK-35.

Walker will be leaving for Finland on March 4.   She promises to keep us all updated on her progress.
